The Fault In Our Stars Movie Review

The Fault in our stars came out a lot earlier than in the UK so when I saw several vlogs on youtube called ‘TFIOS movie review’ or ‘TFIOS movie premiere’ I was scared to watch them, thinking it might spoil it for me. Obviously I have read the book (my book review is here), but I have been looking forward to it so much, I wanted to experience everything when it actually came out in my country, if that makes sense. When it finally came out in the UK, I went on the second day it came out with my friends and WOW just WOW!!

The cast:

Hazel: Shailene Woodley

Augustus: Ansel Elgort

Isaac: Nat Wolff

Monica: Emily Peachey

This is just a few of the main characters. Shailene (Hazel) played her character beautifully! It was exactly how I imagined Hazel to act and and I think this was mainly because John Green was on the set for the duration of the filming. I loved her in Divergent, but in TFIOS I thought she was even better!! To be honest, I thought that Ansel (Augustus) was not going to be a very good for the role of Augustus but he was just amazing. He really did justice to the character and that wink ahhhhh (fangirling)!! My favorite character though was Isaac! He was just how I imagined him, funny, humorous and the scene when he breaks Gus’s basketball trophies was really hilarious! The casting was really well done.

Was it a good interpretation of the book?

Yes! It was so close to the book it was just so great! The start of the film was the exact words of the start of the book which was sooooo good! I was so glad it was so similar to the book, and I am sure all of the fans of the book were too!

Overall it was such a good film. It was so emotional that I cried as soon as the title came on. I think this happened because I was so overwhelmed but the whole idea of the film and how amazing the book was. My favorite part of the film would probably be the part when they are having a romantic meal in Amsterdam  and my favorite quote is:

“I’m in love with you,” he said quietly.

“Augustus,” I said.

“I am,” he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. “I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”

Ahhhh fangirling over here still! I am going to give it a 4 3/4 stars which is really high I know, but it was just ….amazing! If you have not had the chance to see this yet please do, because ahhh it was incredible!

Ingo by Helen Dunmore-Review

I have found myself in this situation many times but I am really sorry for not updating many blog posts lately. i am still really excited about the future for this blog, but school, even after exams, is being really demanding for homework and I have had hardly anytime to read, let alone blogging :(. Of course I want to but just erghh…stupid school! Anyway I have only two more weeks before the Summer holidays when I can read and blog as much as possible! Today I am going to reviewing Ingo by Helen Dunmore.

Title: Ingo

Author: Helen Dunmore

Publisher: HarperCollins

Pages: 319

Ingo is an underwater world which is discovered by brother and sister Sapphire and Connor. When Sapphire sees Connor talking to a mermaid on the rocks at her local beach, she knows something suspicious is going on. When their father suddenly goes missing, Sapphire and Connor have to find away to find him. Through their special magical world will the be able to bring their father back. Many secrets lie ahead, unraveling one by one.

When my friend first recommended this book to me, I thought that it looked a bit childish and not my cup of tea. I soon discovered after I actually gave it a go that I surprised myself and really enjoyed it! It was a fantasy book with the exciting mermaids which were my favorite part.

Plot:

The plot for I thought was really well written! I hadn’t heard of Helen Dunmore before but really enjoyed her writing. It was quite an easy read book so I would recommend it  for everyone!

Characters:

My favorite character in this book was actually the main part, Sapphire. Usually I don’t like the main character that much but Sapphire really spoke out to me! Her and her brother were actually really close when their dad was still their with her, but their relationship got further and further apart. They were both portrayed really well by Helen.

Overall:

Overall I thought that this book was really well done! My star rating is going to be 3 for this particular novel as there was plenty of action but the book seemed to be more of a child’s book! On the other hand, I would recommend to everyone though because it was a very good, relaxing read. I am also very excited to read the next three books in the series!

‘May the odds be ever in your favour…’

When I started reading teen fiction, the first book I read was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. At the time it was nowhere as big as it is now and I fell straight in love with it! Of course from then on i discovered so many other amazing books (DIVERGENT!!)  but The Hunger Games has always stayed in my ‘Top Ten books!’.

Title: The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Pages: 454

Genre: Dystopia/Sci-Fi

WINNING WILL MAKE YOU FAMOUS.

LOSING MEANS CERTAIN DEATH.

In a dark vision of the near future, twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live TV show called the Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister’s place in the games, she sees it as a death sentance. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

Plot:

WOW! This is just the best part of the book in my eyes as it is really exciting and I honestly couldn’t put it down. I wanted to read it just non-stop for the whole day because I wanted Katniss to be okay and the win the games. It shows to you that even is life is the toughest and harsh, people still will do anything (including death) to get food, water and mainly to survive.  Although the idea of killing other people to stay alive in order to win the games and the only rule is do anything to be victorious is about eww I found this to be really thrilling and exciting whilst reading it!   Am I selling it to you yet!!?

Characters:

My favorite character was Rue because she just seemed really nice! The short but amazing friendship between Rue and Katniss I feel is really special and heart-warming. I won’t spoil it for you but just read it to find out. I also loved Katniss because she seemed so brave and to ‘volunteer as tribute’ in such a horrific, terrifying event  was so brave and courageous!

Overall:

Overall this book is just incredible!! The plot is amazing the character all have their own personality (whether good or bad!) and it’s just one of those ‘must read books’. I know its a bit weird but I also love the cover of the book. the little mocking jay pin is so lovely with the arrow (which always inspires me haha). If you haven’t read this book or are just entering the wonderful world of teen fiction or even books I urge you to read the book.  I get really annoyed when people often say ‘but I have watched the movie, so why should I read the book’. Although the movie was great and very accurate, when you read the book there is a lot more detail and you fall ,much deeper into Katniss’s story. The star rating I am going to give this book is 4.5 because of how much I loved it.
